Raku is a 16th century Japanese firing technique. It involves pulling pieces from a red hot kiln (> 1600 F°), burying them in sawdust, turning them in an open flame, and submerging them in water.
The pieces emerge covered in soot and dust and grime.. but once you clean them it reveals a beautiful and distinctive crackle that tells the story of the unique journey each piece has traversed.
