About
Alexandra Kim is a ceramic artist originally from Newton, MA. She began working with clay when she was eight years old, dedicating herself to the medium throughout high school, college, artist residencies, and eventually earning her MA in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art in London in August of 2024. She works with all types of clay — porcelain, white stoneware, brown stoneware, and sculptural clay bodies — and utilizes a variety of techniques: wheel-throwing, hand-building, and extruded forms. She draws much of her inspiration from nature and from her Korean heritage. She echoes the simplicity and movement of nature such as shapes found in the coral reef, and has created multiple series of works exploring Korean traditions and ideals. Her most recent body of work was inspired by the ancient Korean stone fertility statues, dol hareubang, in two large-scale anthropomorphic sculptures that reached over 1 meter in height. These works are currently being shown and for sale at Mint Gallery (Mayfair) in London, UK.
Alexandra has shown in galleries in Boston and London and is currently based in New York City.
